Custom abrasive filament brush roller with steel shaft

Custom Abrasive Filament Brush Rollers

Custom abrasive brush rolls made with silicon carbide, aluminum oxide or diamond abrasive filament for industrial cleaning, deburring and surface treatment.

We manufacture complete one-piece rollers up to 600 mm in outside diameter and up to 6 m in overall shaft length. Single-steel-band and double-steel-band winding constructions are available for OEM, replacement and repeat batch orders made to your drawing.

Abrasive Brush Rolls for Industrial Surface Treatment

An abrasive filament brush roller uses flexible polymer filaments containing abrasive grain throughout the filament. As the filament wears, new abrasive is exposed, allowing the brush to maintain a controlled brushing action.

These rollers are used where an industrial machine needs continuous cleaning, oxide removal, deburring, surface conditioning or preparation across sheet, strip, plate or other wide workpieces.

Examples of custom abrasive filament brush roller constructions

Abrasive Filaments We Can Provide

Silicon Carbide (SiC)

Sharp, aggressive cutting action for deburring, oxide and residue removal, and surface conditioning on compatible metal and non-metal workpieces.

Aluminum Oxide

A less aggressive option than SiC for controlled polishing and finishing, particularly on steel and copper.

Diamond Abrasive Filament

A high-cost specialty option for hard metal, carbide, hard stone, and granite; it is not the standard choice for steel-strip cleaning.

Final selection depends on the workpiece, removal target, required finish, wet or dry conditions, process chemistry, grit, filament diameter, speed, and contact setting.

Applications in Steel Strip, Sheet and Process Lines

  • Strip degreasing and rolling-residue removal
  • Scale and oxide removal around pickling and annealing processes
  • Surface activation before coating, galvanizing, tinning, or cladding
  • Sheet, strip, and plate conditioning or polishing
  • Aluminum and copper strip surface preparation

The correct brush material depends on the exact line position. A brush used before an acid section, between process stages or after rinsing may require a different filament polymer, abrasive, construction and operating setting.

Single- and Double-Steel-Band Winding

We manufacture abrasive filament brush rollers with two winding options:

  • Single-steel-band winding construction
  • Double-steel-band winding construction

The required construction is confirmed from the approved roller drawing and operating requirements. Please identify the existing construction when requesting a replacement, or provide the equipment design requirements for a new OEM roller.

One-piece long abrasive brush roller made to drawing

One-Piece Rollers up to 6 m Overall Shaft Length

Brushcustom can manufacture a complete one-piece abrasive filament brush roller with an outside diameter of up to 600 mm and an overall shaft length of up to 6 m.

The 6 m capability refers to total shaft length, not automatically to the working brush face. Final manufacture is reviewed according to the roller diameter, brush face, shaft and core design, bearing arrangement, operating speed, runout and balance requirements.

For long rollers, send the complete roller or machine drawing so the shaft ends, journals, keyways, mounting interfaces and support arrangement can be reviewed before quotation.

Made to Drawing for OEM and Replacement Supply

We manufacture abrasive brush rolls for new equipment and replacement supply. A drawing is required for custom production.

  • Roller outside diameter, working brush face, and overall shaft length
  • Shaft ends, journals, keyways and mounting details
  • Abrasive type, grit, filament diameter, trim length, and fill pattern, if known
  • Single- or double-steel-band winding requirement
  • Workpiece material, required surface result, and wet or dry operation
  • Process chemical, concentration, and temperature for wet lines
  • Roller RPM or surface speed, line speed and rotation direction
  • Runout, concentricity and balance requirements
  • Required quantity and repeat-order forecast

If the existing specification is incomplete, send the old roller drawing together with clear photos or an approved sample for review.

Abrasive Filament vs. Non-Woven and Wire Brush Rollers

An abrasive filament roller uses individual polymer filaments containing abrasive grain. It provides flexible contact for cleaning, deburring and controlled surface treatment.

A non-woven abrasive roller brush uses abrasive web, flap, convolute, unitized or stacked-disc material. It is a different construction commonly selected for blending and controlled finishing.

A wire brush roll uses metal wire and may be selected for more aggressive scale removal or other duties. These products are not automatically interchangeable. Selection depends on the machine, workpiece and required result.

Abrasive filament brush rollers from the Shanghai aluminum rolling mill replacement project

Installed Aluminum Rolling Mill Replacement

For an aluminum rolling mill in Shanghai, the existing roller was measured and its fill reviewed before an SiC abrasive-filament roller brush was recommended.

The customer ordered 16 replacement rollers recorded as approximately 1.2 m each, and all 16 were installed. The project demonstrates drawing- and sample-based replacement capability; it does not establish a universal grit, service life or performance result for other rolling lines.

FAQ

How do I select the abrasive material and grit?

Brushcustom offers silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, and diamond abrasive filament. Selection depends on the workpiece, material to be removed, required finish, wet or dry conditions, process chemistry, grit, filament diameter, speed, and contact setting. Send the existing specification or process details for review.

What maximum roller size can you manufacture?

We can manufacture a complete one-piece roller up to 600 mm in outside diameter and up to 6 m in overall shaft length. The 6 m maximum refers to total shaft length, not automatically to the working brush face. Final feasibility is reviewed against the drawing, shaft design, speed, runout, and balance requirements.

Can the brush roll be used in a pickling or wet cleaning line?

It can be engineered for suitable wet-line positions, but compatibility is not determined by the abrasive alone. Please provide the chemical, concentration, temperature, exposure conditions and exact line position so the filament polymer and construction can be reviewed.

Can you reproduce an existing abrasive brush roll?

Yes. Provide the existing roller drawing and, when available, clear photos or an approved sample. We review the working dimensions, shaft interface, winding construction, abrasive filament and operating conditions before quotation.

What information is required for a quotation?

Send the complete roller drawing, workpiece and process description, required result, abrasive or grit if known, wet or dry conditions, RPM or line speed, runout and balance requirements, order quantity, and expected repeat demand.
