An aluminum rolling mill in Shanghai needed replacement brush rollers for existing equipment. The old roller was measured on site and its fill material checked before an SiC abrasive-filament roller brush was recommended. The customer ordered 16 replacement rollers, each recorded as 1.2 m long. All 16 have since been installed.
Project at a Glance
- Customer: Aluminum rolling mill in Shanghai, China
- Requirement: Replace an existing brush roller
- On-site review: Measurement of the old roller and inspection of its fill material
- Recommended fill: Silicon carbide (SiC) abrasive filament
- Order: 16 brush rollers, recorded as 1.2 m each
- Confirmed outcome: 16 replacement rollers installed
Starting with the Existing Roller
The customer needed replacements for an existing brush roller. Rather than selecting a standard size from a catalogue, the old roller was measured and its fill material checked at the mill. These observations gave the replacement recommendation a physical starting point.
For any similar replacement, the line position and contact surface also matter: a brush acting on a work roll is not automatically specified the same way as one acting directly on aluminum strip.
SiC Abrasive-Filament Recommendation
After the inspection, an SiC abrasive-filament roller brush was recommended. SiC is the abrasive grain within a flexible polyamide filament; it is not a complete brush specification on its own. The appropriate grit, filament diameter, brush construction, trim, and contact setting depend on the actual surface and process duty.
The project record establishes the SiC recommendation but not a measured cleaning, oxide-removal, or finishing result. The material alone should not be used to infer the brush's exact duty.
From Site Visit to Installed Replacement
The customer ordered 16 brush rollers, each described as 1.2 m long, and all 16 have been installed. The exact length designation has not been confirmed, so it is not labeled as a working face or total shaft dimension. No operating comparison is available; this case documents the replacement and installation, not a measured service-life or productivity gain.
For a similar project, send the existing roller drawing, a measured sample, or clear photos. Identify the mill position and contacted surface, the required process result, the working and overall dimensions, the shaft or core interface, and the known fill and operating conditions. Brushcustom can review these details for a custom abrasive filament brush roller before quotation.
