What Is a Door Brush Seal?

A door brush seal is a continuous strip brush installed along the top, sides, bottom, or meeting edge of a moving door. The flexible filaments maintain light contact with the door or surrounding frame while allowing the door to open and close.

Door brush seals help reduce the entry of dust, drafts, light, leaves, insects, and other loose debris around uneven or moving gaps. They are commonly used where a rigid sealing edge may create excessive drag or cannot follow a corrugated or irregular surface.

A brush seal is not automatically airtight, watertight, soundproof, or fire-rated. These performance requirements must be evaluated as part of the complete door and building-envelope design.

Door Types That Use Brush Seals

Roll-Up and Rolling Steel Doors

Brush seals can be installed around the header and side jambs of corrugated roll-up doors used in warehouses, workshops, storage units, and commercial buildings.

Garage and Sectional Doors

Top, side, and bottom brush seals help cover variable gaps around commercial garage doors, service-bay doors, warehouse doors, and sectional overhead doors.

Roller Shutters and Coiling Doors

Strip brush seals provide flexible contact around shutter guides, frames, headers, and other moving interfaces.

Sliding and Barn Doors

Brush seals can follow the top, sides, meeting edges, or bottom of sliding doors where movement and uneven floor gaps make rigid seals difficult to use.

Commercial and Industrial Doors

Custom door brush seals can be produced for warehouses, factories, loading areas, equipment buildings, and other large door openings.

Large and Hangar Doors

Drawing-defined strip brush seals can be reviewed for large sliding, folding, or overhead door systems.

Where Door Brush Seals Are Installed

  • Door headers and lintels
  • Vertical jambs and side guides
  • Door bottoms and uneven floor gaps
  • Sliding-door meeting edges
  • Corrugated roll-up door surfaces
  • Interior or exterior frame positions

Top, side, and bottom positions may require different holder angles and contact directions.

Filament & Performance Specifications

Nylon, PP, and PBT filament options are available. The material is selected according to the customer’s door movement, contact, moisture, temperature, and outdoor-use requirements.

UV-stabilized, weather-resistant, or flame-retardant material grades can be supplied when specified. These properties apply only to the approved material specification and should not be presented as a certified performance rating for the complete door seal unless supporting test data is available.

Match the Brush Seal to the Door Movement

The brush should maintain continuous contact without creating unnecessary resistance as the door moves. The correct configuration depends on whether the brush contacts a flat panel, a corrugated curtain, a side guide, an uneven floor, or the edge of a sliding door.

Brush seals are frequently installed at the top and sides of rolling or sectional doors, while the bottom position may also require a rubber astragal, threshold, or drainage solution. Brush and rubber seals should be selected according to the actual gap and environmental requirement rather than treated as interchangeable products.

FAQ

Do you sell individual door brush seal kits?

No. We manufacture custom door brush seals for bulk OEM, project, distributor, and replacement orders. We do not supply individual retail kits.

What door brush seal formats can you supply?

We can supply brush strips only, assembled brush-and-holder profiles, or complete three-sided header and jamb brush seal sets.

Which holder materials and profiles are available?

Aluminum, steel, and plastic profiles are available. We can manufacture 45°, 90°, and 180° holders, F, H, and T profiles, and pre-drilled mounting profiles to the approved drawing.

Which filament materials are available for outdoor doors?

Nylon, PP, and PBT are available. No single grade or outdoor-performance range applies to every product. The required UV, weathering, moisture, temperature, or flame-retardant specification should be provided before material selection.

Are your door brush seals UV- or flame-rated?

Materials with specified UV, weather-resistant, or flame-retardant properties can be supplied. We do not publish a universal test rating for every finished door brush seal, so any required standard and supporting material documentation must be agreed before production.

Are door brush seals waterproof?

Not by themselves. They can help reduce wind-driven moisture and debris, but they do not create a guaranteed watertight barrier. Bottom drainage, thresholds, rubber seals, and the complete door design must also be considered.

Can you match an existing door brush seal?

Yes. Send a clear drawing or approved sample showing the brush, holder, mounting holes, trim, length, and installation position.

What information is required for a bulk quotation?

Please provide the door type, installation position, gap, brush trim, holder profile and angle, mounting-hole details, material requirements, finished lengths, supply format, and order quantity.
