Custom Brushes for a UK Precision Tube Manufacturer
A UK precision tube manufacturer ordered custom PA612 helical brush strips for an aluminum tube-processing application. The order covered two brush diameters, with 20 pieces of each specification. Both versions used the same filament, stainless steel backing and close-wound construction.
Brushcustom produced the two sizes to the specified dimensions and winding count. The project illustrates custom brush supply for tube-processing equipment where material and coil geometry must be defined together.
Project Specifications
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Filament | 0.15 mm PA612 nylon |
| Strip backing | 0.30 mm hardened 304 stainless steel strip |
| Brush specification 1 | Finished OD: 36–38 mm; center ID: 12–16 mm; 350 turns |
| Brush specification 2 | Finished OD: 23–25 mm; center ID: 10–12 mm; 350 turns |
| Winding construction | Close-wound, with adjacent turns touching |
| Quantity | 20 pieces per specification |
Close-Wound Construction in Two Diameters
The metal-backed strip was wound into a helix with adjacent turns directly against one another, leaving no gaps between backing-strip turns. This close-wound arrangement creates a densely packed coil; it does not mean that individual filaments have no spaces between them.
Both sizes specified 350 turns. Their outside diameters and center openings differed, so the winding count alone would not identify the correct replacement. The center ID describes the opening through the brush coil, not the diameter of the aluminum tube being processed.
PA612 Filament and Stainless Steel Backing
PA612 generally absorbs less moisture than PA6 or PA66, which can help retain filament stiffness in humid or wet conditions. This material characteristic is described in Evonik’s PA612 filament guidance.
For this order, PA612 and the 0.15 mm filament diameter were specified together with the hardened 304 stainless steel backing. For similar aluminum applications, filament selection also needs to account for exposed trim length and brush engagement. A material designation alone does not establish the contact force or surface finish.
Specifying a Similar Custom Brush
This 40-piece order combined two coil sizes within one material and winding specification. It provides a concrete example of how Brushcustom can manufacture custom spiral brushes around a tube manufacturer’s component requirements.
For a similar project, start with a drawing or sample, the required brush action and quantity. Coil dimensions and winding arrangement can then be reviewed alongside the equipment’s mounting details and the required aluminum surface condition.
